Product Information
General WALTER HEITZ Ink Signed photo, HEITZ, good clean autograph of Heitz, fine condition.
Walter Heitz (8 December 1878 – 9 February 1944) was a German general (Generaloberst) in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He commanded the VIII Army Corps on the Eastern Front.
Heitz surrendered the central cauldron during the Battle of Stalingrad on 31 Jan. 1943. Heitz died of cancer in February 1944 while in Soviet captivity.
During the war kids were encouraged to collect signatures from Germany’s war heroes. The most wealthy purchased photo cards of the KC winner and other Third Reich personalities and sent them to be signed. Those not as wealthy would instead send slips of paper to KC winners to sign. In many cases the youth would then attach a photo from a paper or a magazine and put it in their collection
