VERY NICE IRON CROSS, W/RIBBON, 3PC, MAGNETIC, LIGHT TARNISH, NEAR FINE OVERALL RING MARKED 106 Gebr Schneider- Wien (also known markings BSW on other badges)
This 2nd Class Iron Cross is a very nice and uncommon cross. The obverse of the cross shows some patina, but no evident wear. The core retains over 99.5% percent of the original black paint,
The frame features crisp beading and nicely polished edges, with great original luster as well as areas of patina. The core paint on the reverse is about 100% percent intact,
The suspension ring of this cross is marked with the Präsidialkanzlei code “106” indicating manufacture by the firm of Brüder Schneider in Vienna
a seldom encountered and desirable maker, It would be hard to find a nicer example by this maker.

The Brothers Schneider company is better known as BSW (Brüder Schneider, Wien). The company used a Steinhauer & Lück (S&L) frame design. Crosses are marked with the company’s PKZ number, “106”. It is unknown if BSW started Iron Cross production before it became mandatory to mark crosses. Therefore it is possible that there are unmarked BSW crosses.
