DIETRICH VON CHOLTITZ LETTER
DIETRICH VON CHOLTITZ (1894 – 1966) German military governor of Paris during the closing days of the occupation of that city during World War II. He claimed to have disobeyed Hitler’s order to leave Paris in rubble during this last stage of the war. Rare , Baden-Baden, Nov. 28, 1959 in German mentioning photos of his home in Tschira which he had specifically made for his friend but which had become lost in the ‘hustle and bustle’. He adds: ‘…It is disappointing. I am very shy…it’s simply because I’m a bad finder; if something is misplaced, I am completely lost…’ Small tear at right margin with traces of cello tape on verso running the length of the letter, still very good condition.
