ln 1922 Wohlleben joined the NSDAP. During the prohibition of the NSDAP in 1924 he belonged to the Greater German Volksgemeinschaft . After the re-founding of the party in 1925, he joined it again. In the following years he took over functionary posts as Ortsgruppenleiter and Kreisleiter, then from 1927 to 1929 as editor of the National Socialist weekly The New Front . Due to offenses against the republican protection law he was repeatedly sentenced to prison terms.

From 1930 to 1931 Wohlleben worked as Reichsredner . In 1933 Wohlleben was a member of the Prussian Landtag for a few months . He then sat from 12 November 1933 until the end of Nazi rule in the spring of 1945 as a deputy for constituency 4 ( Potsdam ) in the National Socialist Reichstag . In addition, he was a member of the Reich Chamber of Labor and Economic Council and Gaubetriebszellenleiter in Gau Kurmark the NSDAP.
